Molson Vito’s BruinsRocky’s Moosehead’s 1

Last minute heroics from brothers Craig MacKenzie and Daryl MacKenzie and the Molson Vito’s Bruins are on their way to defend their league title, a 2-1 win against Rocky’s

Moosehead’s giving them a 3-1 best of five semi final series win, setting up a repeat of last year’s final match up with the Auto Barn Wheelers.

Both goaltenders were outstanding in the game, the Bruins Karl Augustin and Moosehead’s Pat Carlson backstopping a scoreless first, and yielding only one goal in the second.

That marker from the Moosehead’s Craig Taylor at the 4:58 mark of the second, forcing a turnover along the boards, spinning and firing quick, giving the Moosehead’s their only goal of the game.

Craig MacKenzie would tie it 45 seconds into the third, and with 37 seconds left in regulation, in a game that seemed destined to go to overtime, he won a faceoff deep in the Moosehead’s zone, and 10 seconds later Daryl MacKenzie would convert for the game winner.

The first game of the best of seven final series is scheduled for Sunday, 730pm at the LBR.

TUESDAY, MARCH 15th

The Auto Barn Wheelers have punched a return ticket to the finals, capping a sweep of their best of five semi final with three straight wins over Kacey’s Bud Lightning, hanging on for a 4-3 win in the deciding game.

The Wheelers took a 3-1 lead into the third, and Kacey’s made a game of it, climbing back within one on Jamie Grant’s goal 4:40 into the third.

But, Steve Mason would restore the two goal lead less than a minute later, with his second of the game, and it would be an insurance goal that would be required.

Kacey’s played the final two minutes sans goalie, with an extra attacker pressing for a tie to force overtime.

Alex Carter scored with 42 seconds left to make it a one goal game down the stretch, but it would be the final goal of the game.

Jarred Fitzgerald and Tim Vincent had the Wheelers other goals.  Brad Tesink had the game’s lone first period goal, giving Kacey’s their only lead.

The Wheelers move on to face the winner of the semi final series between Rocky’s Moosehead’s and the Molson Vito’s Bruins, and the Bruins are now up 2-1 in that best of five, rebounding after dropping the series opener with back to back wins, the latest by a close 3-2 decision.

The Bruins scored the lone first period goal, Ben Scott getting the ball rolling just past the midway mark of the first.

Aaron Haines tied it for the Moosehead’s early in the second, at the 1:08 mark.

Daryl MacKenzie restored the Bruins lead late in the second, and it would stay that way until late in the third, when Joel Cousins tipped a Scott Wentworth shot from the point for the game winner.

The Moosehead’s pressed for the tie, coming close, Cory Ouellette made it a 3-2 game with a power play goal with 1:12 left in regulation, but that would be as close as they would get.

Game four in the series is set for 8:30pm at the Charles Gorman Arena on Thursday, March 17.  Game five, if necessary, Sunday, 7:30pm at the LBR.

If they had not caught anyone’s attention since the mid season break, East Coast Moving definitely served notice this evening they are not to be taken lightly, the league’s bottom rung team dominant in an 8-5 win over Kacey’s Bud Lightning.

Bolstered by the addition of one new player, a returning player who did not play the first half, and a key trade, East Coast has put together several strong efforts – but it was veterans Len Drew Sr and Andrew O’Hanley who led the attack in this one – O’Hanely with a hat trick, Drew setting up every one of them, and chipping in one of his own.

Two of the mid season additions also chipped in, Eric Dyker and Randy Gilmore had one each, Donny Daley had two.

Auto Barn Wheelers 4   Rocky’s Moosehead’s 1

Rocky’s Moosehead’s have also seen dramatic improvement since the break, on this night holding the league’s second place squad to a one goal margin until late in the game – the Auto Barn Wheelers prevailed 4-1.

The teams played a scoreless first.  Brian Cooper broke the logjam 2:20 into the second with a power play goal, and Tim Vincent made it 2-0 before the second was out.

Early in the third, the Moosehead’s came back within one, Cory Ouellette scoring 46 seconds into the period.

It would stay that way for the better part of the period, until Vincent’s second, a hard shot from in close that he sent top shelf with 4:24 to play restored the two goal lead.

The Wheelers fourth was fired into an empty net by Ron Paley.
